Fictional Steve On The Defensive

By Finesse, with Artistry's Blessing from the Maternity Ward

[Read our Finale recap here and listen to the Raw Emotion Podcast here]

Fictional Steve (www.realitysteve.com) is at it again.  He's bathing in self-adulation today over the fact that he had all of the spoilers correct for this season on The Bachelorette.

Taunts the dog because the dog thought Ben would win.
This is today's F-you to all the "haters" out there:
So I’m curious how many people are still doubting what I told them was going to happen back on June 1st? Funny, after Ali and Roberto’s season, people were saying that I’d never get another spoiler again from this show and that was the end of me. Might’ve been the stupidest thing I’ve ever read. Especially considering ever since that season, you have known what was going to happen going into every episode of “Bachelor Pad 1″, Brad’s season, Ashley’s season, and now “Bachelor Pad” 2″ by coming to this site. Sorry, but I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. I will continue to talk about and spoil the show, and haters will continue to talk about me. That’s the way it works, and I’d have it no other way, so keep it comin’.
Fictional Steve, you're so gangster.  Excuse me, gangsta.

Here's the bottom line with this guy.  He's a fraud.  His posts are all 6 pages long and it's a Where's Waldo exercise to find something entertaining in there.  He might have 20 times more readers than we do (kidding, it's more like 100), but that doesn't mean he's better, or even any good.  After all, Curtis Martin retired with five times more rush yards than Bo Jackson, but the two aren't even comparable.  Bo knows football.  GTOG knows the Bachelor.

Fictional Steve gets off (perhaps literally) on the fact that he "spoils" the ending of the Bachelor for people.  OH MY GOD STEVE! CONGRATULATIONS! YOU HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A FRIEND WHO WORKS ON THE BACHELOR AND HE TELLS YOU EVERYTHING THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN! OMG WE R SOOOOOOO JEAL!! LOL!  He then gets hyper-sensitive when he screws up and gets a "spoiler" wrong, which we're told is more often than he leads on.

Indulge GTOG for a moment as we assign appropriate levels of blame for Fictional Steve reaching such lofty heights in the cutthroat Bachelor-recapping business.

- 64% blame goes to Fictional Steve.  Although he is supremely untalented, he does have a very successful show-ruin-er blog.  The problem is that while he purports to be lampooning the show, he is actually taking it incredible seriously.  This is his life.  This is his raison d'etre.  It's what drives him and what motivates him.  We suspect that he hibernated for weeks after he screwed up the Ali and Roberto pick.

[Side note: Fictional, how do you screw that one up?  Seriously, that was the easiest one ever.  We don't even have acquaintances who feed us unedited footage of the show and we still saw the writing on the wall.  And we knew it even before the baseball uniform.]

Our crystal ball.
- 30% blame goes to people who read it.  I'd love to hear one good reason why people read his site.  So you can know who wins?  Boy, is that joyous!  What is fun about knowing who wins on a reality show before it happens? Hey everyone, I know who wins Celebrity Apprentice this year, and it hasn't even aired yet! Who wants to date me?!?!

- 6% blame to us.  GTOG is humble.  GTOG appreciates what we have.  Every reader is precious.  But maybe we haven't done a good enough job of explaining to the world why they should be reading our site, and not his.  How much of this is on us?  We have to start by looking in the mirror, and we might not like what we see.

Bachelorette Finale Recap: A GTOG Scrapbook

By Finesse

[You can listen to our after show Raw Emotion Podcast here]

So it was said by Artistry. So it came to pass.  On the same day his daughter was born, he was able to revel in having correctly predicted JP as the recipent of The Final Rose. A hearty congratulations to him.

But enough with the fluff.  Let's get down to the analysis of what happened and let's do it in pictures as a way to honor JP's rose-clinching scrap book.

Ashley's Journey to Get Proposed To continues in Fiji, or as Ashley puts it without a single breath in between words, "I've-continued-my-journey-through-the breathtaking-islands-of-Fiji-Fiji-is-the-perfect-place-to-write-the-last-chapter-of-my-love-story."  And yes, that's another $10,000 to ABC from the Fijian Ministry of Tourism.  She begins as so many Bachelorettes before her have, by voicing over carefully edited montages of past events in the present tense.  Her performance is flawless.  She gives both Gentlemen glowing reviews but to the well-trained ear, JP comes out of the gate with all the momentum.

We start by meeting Ashley's family, which consists of: 1) a completely disinterested step-father; 2) a mother with absolutely no authority over any of her children; 3) a tattoo-covered sister who set the modern-day Bachelor franchise record for lowest likability score in the shortest amount of time; and 4) a younger brother who was wearing a tug-of-war rope around his neck.

If this guy was never in front of you in line at a CoGo's buying cigarettes, then you've never been to Pittsburgh.
The love story continues after the jump...

JP is first up to meet the family and he's determined to "continue to be me," which presumably means continuing to be insecure and jealous.  How does he feel about meeting the family?

As JP sits down to talk to the family, one thing becomes abundantly clear.  Ashely's brother is extremely sweaty and overheated, and desperately needs a glass of water.  He looks like he should be starting a fight at Kennywood.

Just chillin'
Ashley's mother proposes a toast and declares to JP, "you're welcome in our family."  Is this an official blessing?  Let's consult the Blessing Tree.

Hmmm ... too close to call.  Have to go to the booth.

"Upon further review, the blessing has been given."
At the table, as Ashley's brother continues to die slowly from heat exhaustion, Ashley's sister -- Chrystie with a y -- asks Ashley whether JP makes her laugh. Hold on Chrystie, let GTOG answer that. No!  Ashley clumsily dodges the question by answering, "I don't know, JP. Do you make me laugh?"  OH NO.  JP panics.  The brother adjusts the anchor around his neck.  The mother and stepfather get in a defensive posture in case Chrystie's head explodes.

Chrystie sets out to recapture her family's Blessing from JP.  She tells Ashley something to the effect of, "I don't like him.  I think he's stupid.  It takes a psycho to recognize a psycho, and trust me, he's a psycho."  Ashley doesn't take this Blessing Revocation well and begins a session of convulsive hiccuping while fending off a shock-and-awe attack on her forehead by her bangs.

What does her brother think of all this?

After Ashely's mother tries to explain to Chrystie, "honey, you've only known him for 10 minutes, maybe you should give him a chance," Chrystie breathes actual fire in her mother's face.  That's the end of that.  A determined Chrystie does what any good big sister would do -- takes JP aside to sit in two chairs facing the same direction.  She needs to ask him the "tough questions."

Actual tough question: "Are you smitten?"
Chrystie proceeds to tell JP that 1) she doesn't like him; 2) she doesn't want him preying on her little sister, 3) he is so old; 4) Ashley liked Brad Womack better; and 5) there is no #5 because JP stopped hearing anything after Brad's name was brought up.

He's pissed.
"Whatever man. I've got run clubs I can go organize."
It's Ben's turn to meet the family, and if you didn't think Ashley was going to overcompensate with him to get her sister to like him, then you haven't been paying attention.

I can't think of anything I wouldn't do to get this woman to stop yelling at me.
Did we listen to anything that Ben said to Ashley's family?  Absolutely not.  What does the brother think?

"I'm from 8 Mile, muuuuh fucka!!!"
Ben plays it cool with the family and with the sister.  He stresses that he and Ashley "are the right age," a direct reaction to Chrystie's attempt to put JP on the sex-offender list for being 8 years older than her sister.  Excluding the botched "I love you" from last week, Ben's throwing a near perfect game.  Chrystie reveals to Ben that she has been divorced, which means it is likely that her ex-husband's body is now a 1,000 piece puzzle.

Date time.  Ashley explains, "I think the best way to see Fiji is how Ben and I will be getting to our destination today."  Note to Ashley: No one talks like that.  As discussed on the podcast, Ben's total lack of irrational exuberance and faux-shock at the sight of the helicopter really cost him.

Come on, Ben.  Rookie mistake.
At Ben's hotel room that night, he tells Ashley that he is in love with her.  She doesn't say it back, but Ben is not deterred.  He believes that when she kisses him after The Big Reveal, she is telling him that she loves him "in the only way she knows how."  Funny, we thought she was just occupying her mouth so she didn't have to say it back.  Ben is losing it.  All signs are pointing to JP.  But at least there is this voice over.

Now it's JP's turn, and recognizing that Ben probably dropped the "I love you," bomb, he realizes that he can't hold his cards any longer.  It's time for the walls to come crumbling down.  He really puts her in the mood by quoting her stepfather and then saying "I am madly in love with you." It's the only play he had left, and he executed it perfectly.

But wait! It's not the only play he had left. At the hotel later that night, he busts out a scrap book that not only contains a romantic note, but also has unfinished pages on which they can continue to write their love story.  Game-changer.  He seizes the momentum, and never lets go.

Cue Neal Lane, creepy Jeweler/Wall Destroyer.  He gets the Gentlemen to open up to him by asking things like, "What if she says no?"  Really inspirational stuff, ring guy.

"What if she dies in a fiery car crash? How will you feel then?"
During the obligatory video of the men in towels, Ben says he is "confident" about 70 times.  That foreshadows diaster.  JP, on the other hand, puts his talk with Chrystie to work and rather than be jealous of Brad Womack, he tries to be Brad Womack.

You can't stop this level of balcony gazing. You can only hope to contain it.
The men are then flown to the proposal site in private jets.

If you're poor or unemployed, could there be a more obnoxious picture?
Before the actual proposals, we get more voicing over.  Ben begins crying about his deceased father (may he rest in peace) which is, as Artistry likes to say, "apropos of absolutely nothing."

Tears for the wrong person. Another huge mistake.
Ben arrives in front of Ashley and just as she begins to break up with him, he interrupts her to propose marriage.  Painful.  She tells him no, then he does what he should do and walks away without a hug and without wanting explanation.  Ashley chases after him.  Ben is fired up, and says with disdain, "JP is a wonderful guy.  I'm sure you'll have a nice liiiieeeeeefffffffeeeee together."  He then gets on a tiny boat which appears to set sail for the middle of the ocean.

Is he taking the boat all the way back to Napa?
JP, now the obvious winner, is greeted by Chris Harrison.  Very disappointing night for Chris.  He was upstaged by the ring guy, but he salvaged it with an iconic photo.

JP's proposal is so anticlimactic that I started searching for online petitions to sign to get Pippa Middleton to be the next Bachelorette.  JP says something about how his face wrinkles when he smiles, and then gets down on one knee for the proposal.

"You have high arches. You should try Asics."
Ashley's heart is warmed and she says the only thing that JP wants to hear -- that she won't cheat on him. "I do not want to be with anyone else but you forever."

We don't know whether Ashley's version of "forever" will be 6 months or a full year, but we do know that we enjoyed the Journey.

GTOG Raw Emotion Podcast: Bachelorette Finale Recap

As one Journey comes to an end, another one begins. On the same day that Artistry's daughter is born, he phones in live from the maternity ward to tell us how he is feeling and to recap the Bachelorette Finale. We talk about where it went wrong for Ben, whether it was that see-through sweater from last week that cost him the title, and where Neal Lane gets off asking the questions that only Chris Harrison should be asking. It's about as emotional as a podcast from the hospital can get. It's the GTOG Raw Emotion Podcast.

Burress Bets Big on Possible Visit to Gay Island in NFL Playoffs

By Artistry

Question if you must his decision to stick a loaded weapon into the band of his sweatpants as he entered a crowded New York City nightclub - to say nothing of the decision to wear sweatpants to a New York City nightclub.  Debate, if necessary, the dullness of mind reflected by him then proceeding to shoot himself in the leg.  But say this for Plaxico Burress: the man has foresight.  No sooner does Plax sign with the New York Jets today than the Steelers turn around and sign William Gay.  Will Plax get to spend a Sunday afternoon in January luxuriating on Gay Island?  It's a pretty good bet.

Don't drop the ball.

Wake Up With GTOG: Breakfast at Tomlin's

By Finesse

Early this morning, Plaxico Burress met with Mike Tomlin to have breakfast in the cafeteria at Steelers training camp at St. Vincent College.  It's unclear just how seriously the Steelers are pursuing Burress, but you have to imagine that the interest is real.  After all, the cafeteria at St. Vincent is to the NFL what Fiji is to the Bachelor -- the perfect place to fall in love.

It's hard to establish an opinion one way or the other on whether the Steelers should bring Burress back because no one seems to know what he has left.  He was at his peak before he shot himself in the leg and went to jail for two years.  That's not something you can easily recover from.

Given the caveat that we have no idea whether Burress is even good, this flirtation with Plaxico is happening for one of the following three reasons:

1) Placate Big Ben: Ben may love his Band of Brothers but he would love it a lot more if he could get a taller member.  He's been pining for a tall receiver since the day Plaxico left, and this very public desire once caused Hines Ward to take a break from taking offense at being a third round draft pick (the horror!!!) to take offense at being called not as tall as Plaxico.  Under this theory, the Steelers want to show Big Ben that they are listening to him and will not hesitate to tell Ben how hard they "tried" to sign Plaxico after Plax gets double the money somewhere else.

2) Santonio Remorse:  Santonio Holmes just got $24 million in guaranteed money from the Jets, the most ever for a wide receiver (or close to it).  The Steelers dumped him for a 5th round pick just two years ago.  (The Steelers eventually traded that 5th rounder to Arizona for a 6th round pick and Bryant McFadden, or as the package is more commonly called, a 6th round pick).  The Steelers traded Holmes for nothing partially because they wouldn't have been able to sign him and partially because the Steelers simply cannot -- and I repeat, CANNOT -- tolerate one of their players smoking marijuana.  It is unfathomable that the organization would ever tolerate any such immoral and illegal behavior.  Never.  Can't even imagine it.

The harsh truth for the Steelers is that trading Holmes for any sort of morality-related reason was ridiculous at the time and has proven to be completely disingenuous, even embarrassingly so.  The guy was a perfect fit on the field for the Steelers.  The argument that the team wouldn't have been able to sign him is probably true, but to ultimately come away with only a 6th round pick and some skid marks -- well, it doesn't add up.

Can you believe it!?!? We got him AND a 6th rounder!!!!!
By flirting with Plaxico, and potentially signing him, are the Steelers admitting in some odd, Finesse-just-made-this-up way that they mishandled the Santonio situation?  Yes.  Now, suddenly, the Steelers will tolerate a wide receiver with some baggage, especially since they are confident that James Harrison has significantly more and bigger guns than Plax.

3) Throw it to Plaxico!  Hey, maybe he still has it.

ESPN's NFL Free Agent FRENZY Reaches a BOILING POINT

By Artistry

A routine 6 pm SportsCenter suddenly exploded Friday as Adam Schefter appeared with his Blackberry to report this breaking news:

Schefter: "I'm hearing from several people this afternoon that the New York Jets are out of the running for Nnamdi Asomugha. The Dallas Cowboys are out of the running for Nnamdi Asomugha. And the mystery team absolutely out of nowhere? [Checking blackberry] The Philadelphia Eagles.  To emphasize, three different people are telling me right now that the team is the Philadelphia Eagles.  That's right.  This is what the Philadelphia Eagles do.  They are just so secretive.  Now, out of nowhere, again, I want to emphasize that this is what sources are telling me, here come the Philadelphia Eagles.  What's really amazing about this is until today, all my sources were saying Nnamdi Asomugha, New York Jets.  That's what I've been breathlessly reporting now for days.  But now they're saying Nnamdi Asomugha, Philadelphia Eagles."

Random anchor: "Wow."

Schefter:  But here's what's even more amazing. Last summer we had LeBron and the "Decision." Who would have ever thought we'd have another decision, in the NFL, with even more drama.  I want to emphasize again right now, Nnamdi Asomugha, the Philadelphia Eagles."

"You heard me. Nnamdi Asomugha."
Random anchor: "Wow. Philadelphia? I never ever ever would have guessed Philadelphia. How?"

Schefter:  "The Philadelphia Eagles were the mystery team. They are just so secretive. I want to emphasize that this is what sources are telling me.  Nnamdi Asomugha.  Here we have confirmation. Yes. Nnamdi Asomugha. The Philadelphia Eagles. 5 years, $60 million."

Random anchor: "Not quite the mega-deal we were expecting. [Pregnant pause]. Correct me if I'm wrong."

Schefter: "Um. Well, uh, Darrell Revis makes $11.5 million a year. This contract pays $12 million a year.  So."

Random anchor: "What did the New York Jets NOT do to make this happen."

Schefter:  "The New York Jets have a certain amount of money available under the cap.  Another team has a bit more money available.  The Philadelphia Eagles.  They offered that money to Nnamdi Asomugha.  And this afternoon, my sources told me, you know what?  Nnamdi Asomugha is taking that  money.  Who could have seen THAT coming. The Philadelphia Eagles.  Just incredible.  [Checking blackberry].  Nnamdi Asomugha."

This is SportsCenter.
